Students will learn the difficult concept of equivalent measures for volume through a fast paced, fun game. They will compare different types of liquid measurement and decide which is larger.

This is a modified form of the old favorite "Slap Jack." The difference is that there is a center pile in addition to the player piles. The card turned over in the center pile indicates what card you are looking to slap. Once you slap the coordinating card, you turn a new card and begin to search for a new card to slap.

You can choose any format of cards to be the CENTER pile, so that kids can get review on the portion that they struggle with the most. They can focus on formats that they are more familiar using.

3 Unique sets of cards with varying skill levels:
Cups
Pints
Quarts

Each set contains 6 different formats to compare the liquid measurement values:
Identical Content
Ounces
Multiple picture
Multiple word form equivalents in cups, pints, quarts and gallons.

Print 1 copy of each set to make a deck. Use card stock or laminate for durability. More copies=more cards, longer game, more review

Variation:
-You can choose any format of cards to be the CENTER pile, so that kids can get review on the portion that they struggle with the most. They can focus on formats that they are more familiar using.
-You can also use these for independent review by having students match all the equal values. This is great for an introductory game.

Instructions for play:
-Choose one format of cards for CENTER pile
-The remaining cards in the set will be used as PLAYING cards.

-Place the CENTER cards face down in a pile.
-Deal the PLAYING cards equally among players. Place them face down in a pile in front of each player.
-Decide the first player.
-Flip over one of the CENTER cards.
-In clockwise order, players flip one card at a time into the middle. When a PLAYING card is flipped that matches the CENTER card: SLAP-IT! (note: the "match" can be any format that is the equivalent amount)
-The first player to slap the card takes the center pile of cards that have been played and adds them to the bottom of their own pile.
-Flip another CENTER card and continue playing, this time matching to the new CENTER card.
-The game is finished when time is up or one player has all the PLAYING cards.
