How to Use It

Step 1: Laminate and cut apart the picture cards and token cards.

Step 2: Deal the cards evenly among players. Each player turns their cards face down in a stack on the table. For each round, everyone flips over their top card at the same time and races to find their number first on the I Spy board.

Step 3: The winner of the round earns a token. Play continues until the stacks of cards are completed. The player with the most tokens wins the game!

Easy Differentiation

Children come to number games with different levels of number knowledge and attention. This game is easy to adjust so everyone can play.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Start with a small stack of cards showing just a few numbers
  • Name the number on each card together before searching
  • Point to the part of the board where the number can be found
  • Play cooperatively without the race so children can search at their own pace

For On-Level Practice

  • Play the game as written with a partner or small group
  • Say each number out loud when you find it
  • Count tokens at the end to see who won
  • Rotate through different game boards

For an Extra Challenge

  • Make extra copies of the picture cards for a longer game
  • After finding a number, name the number that comes before or after it
  • Count the tokens and compare who has more and who has fewer
  • Challenge players to find the number before a short timer runs out

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Practice saying number names with a short frame such as "I spy number ___."
  • Have children trace the numeral on the card with a finger before searching
  • Give each child their own board and card stack for play without pressure to compete
  • Have children point to or cover the number to practice fine motor precision
  • Give extra processing time and take turns one at a time when needed

Perfect For

  • Preschool and kindergarten math centers
  • Partner activities
  • Small groups
  • RTI and intervention
