What's Included

  • 10 colorful I Spy game boards with green objects arranged in different layouts
  • 40 I Spy image cards featuring green objects such as a balloon, book, frog, gem, button and test tube
  • 20 printable star tokens (or swap in mini erasers, counters or pom-poms)

Why Teachers Love It

  • Color of the week made easy: One game gives children lots of practice naming green and finding green objects.
  • Ten different boards: Repeat play stays fresh because each board has a different layout.
  • Quick to prep and reusable: Print, laminate and cut once, then play again and again.
  • Great for RTI groups: Teachers use it as a vocabulary game to see which students grasp words and images quickly.
  • Made for speech, OT and ELL: Target vocabulary, articulation, visual scanning and fine motor goals with one game.
  • Easy to adapt: Play as a group race, on your own, side by side or with a sensory twist.

Skills Students Practice

Primary Academic Skills

  • Color recognition and vocabulary: Children identify and name a wide variety of green objects such as frogs, apples, trees, tractors, backpacks and balloons.
  • Speech and expressive language: Students say the object name aloud when they find their match, which supports articulation and word-to-picture connections.
  • Visual discrimination and visual scanning: Children search for one picture among many similar green objects and quickly locate the correct image each round.
  • Attention and focus: Players filter out distractions and concentrate on one target image at a time.
  • Fine motor and visual motor skills: Picking up and placing tokens strengthens hand muscles and coordinates eye movements with hand placement.

Secondary Life & Learning Skills

  • Taking turns
  • Waiting during group play
  • Listening to classmates
  • Maintaining attention
  • Communicating choices
  • Building confidence during group participation

How to Use It

Step 1: Print the game boards, image cards and star tokens. Laminate for durability and cut the pieces apart.

Step 2: Choose a Green Objects I Spy board and place it where all players can easily see it. Deal the image cards face down in small stacks for each player or create one shared draw pile.

Step 3: On each turn, players flip their top card at the same time and race to find the matching green object on the board. The first player to point to the correct image earns a token or keeps the image card as a point. Keep flipping and searching until all cards have been matched, then count tokens to find the winner!

Bonus Play Ideas

  • Independent I Spy: A student flips through the cards and covers matches alone for extra practice with color recognition and focus. This works beautifully for quiet centers or early finishers.
  • Parallel play: Two students each have their own board and deck and play side by side at their own pace. This supports learners who thrive in calm, non-competitive settings.
  • Sensory twist: Use textured manipulatives such as pom-poms or fuzzy balls as tokens for an added tactile experience.

Easy Differentiation

Children come to this game with different color knowledge, vocabularies and comfort levels with group play. These options make it easy to adjust so everyone can join in.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Start with independent play using one board and a few image cards
  • Name each green object together before the game begins
  • Begin with easy-to-spot pictures such as a frog or a tree
  • Play side by side on separate boards before moving to a group race

For On-Level Practice

  • Play the race version as written with a small group
  • Name each picture out loud when you find it
  • Rotate through different game boards
  • Count tokens at the end to see who won

For an Extra Challenge

  • Use the full set of 40 image cards
  • Describe the object with a full sentence, such as "I spy a green tractor," before collecting a token
  • Tell where the picture is on the board, such as "at the top" or "next to the frog"
  • Find the picture before a short timer runs out

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Practice color words and target sounds as children name and describe each picture
  • Use a short language frame such as "I spy a green ___."
  • Build fine motor skills by flipping cards, pointing to matches and placing tokens, counters or pom-poms
  • Use the clear pictures to help ELL learners connect new words to real-life objects
  • Give extra processing time and take turns one at a time when needed

Perfect For

  • Color of the week lessons that focus on the color green
  • Speech therapy articulation practice
  • ELL and ESL vocabulary activities
  • Occupational therapy for hand-eye coordination and attention
  • Literacy centers and small groups
  • Sub plans and early finishers
  • Indoor recess or rainy-day centers
