  • Easy to adjust: Choose specific cards, use fewer images or play together as a team.

Skills Students Practice

Primary Academic Skills

  • 2D shape recognition: Children identify circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, diamonds, octagons and more in Easter pictures.
  • Shape names and attributes: Children name shapes and notice sides and corners as they compare pictures.
  • Visual discrimination: Children notice the details that set similar bunnies and eggs apart.
  • Visual scanning: Children search a full board carefully to find the exact match.
  • Attention to detail: Quick rounds build careful looking and focus.
  • Math vocabulary: Naming shapes and Easter pictures builds language during play.

Secondary Life & Learning Skills

  • Taking turns
  • Waiting during group play
  • Maintaining attention
  • Using mathematical language
  • Following directions
  • Building confidence during group participation

How to Use It

Step 1: Print the game boards, image cards and token cards. Laminate the pieces for extra durability, then cut everything apart and store it in a bag, photo box or small container.

Step 2: Choose one game board and place it where all players can see it clearly. Give each child a stack of cards face down and place the tokens nearby.

Step 3: Players flip their top card at the same time and race to find the matching image on the game board. The first player to find the correct picture wins a token. Keep playing until all the cards have been flipped, then count tokens to find the winner.

For a less competitive version, let children take turns flipping one card at a time and find the matches together as a team. Cooperative play works well for preschool, special education, occupational therapy and kids who are still building confidence.

Easy Differentiation

Children come to this game with different shape knowledge, visual skills and comfort levels with group play. These options make it easy to adjust so everyone can join in.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Start with one board and a small set of image cards
  • Begin with circles, squares and triangles before adding other shapes
  • Name each shape together before the game begins
  • Trace the outline of the shape with a finger before searching

For On-Level Practice

  • Play the race version as written with a partner
  • Say the name of the shape on each card when you find its match
  • Rotate through different game boards
  • Count the tokens at the end to see who won

For an Extra Challenge

  • Use all 40 image cards in one game
  • Name the shape before collecting the token
  • Count the sides and corners of each shape
  • Describe where the picture is on the board using words like above, below and next to

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Practice shape names and Easter vocabulary such as bunny, egg and jelly bean
  • Use a short language frame such as "I spy a ___ shape."
  • Build visual scanning and pointing skills during OT sessions
  • Use the pictures to make new words easier to understand for ELL and ESL learners
  • Give extra processing time and remove the race when needed
