Why Teachers Love It
-
Color of the week made easy: One game gives children lots of practice naming red and finding red objects.
-
Ten different boards: Repeat play stays fresh because each board has a different layout.
-
Low prep: Simple directions make the game easy to introduce in centers, small groups, therapy or sub plans.
-
Great for RTI groups: Teachers use it as a vocabulary game to see which students grasp words and images quickly.
-
Sensory twist built in: Swap the star tokens for mini erasers, buttons or pom-poms for extra fine motor practice.
-
Easy to adapt: Play as a group race, on your own, side by side or as a timed speed round.
Skills Students Practice
Primary Academic Skills
-
Color recognition and vocabulary development: Students explore shades of red while identifying and naming objects, which builds both receptive and expressive vocabulary.
-
Speech and language practice: Saying each red object aloud supports articulation goals, sentence structure and pronunciation through playful repetition.
-
Visual discrimination and attention: Students search, compare and spot small differences between pictures as they scan the board.
-
Fine motor skills: Handling small tokens and cards builds fine motor coordination and hand-eye control.
Secondary Life & Learning Skills
- Taking turns
- Waiting during group play
- Listening to classmates
- Maintaining attention
- Communicating choices
- Building confidence during group participation
How to Use It
Step 1: Print the game boards, image cards and star tokens. Laminate for durability and cut apart the pieces.
Step 2: Choose a game board and place it in the center of your table or small group area. Deal the image cards face down to each player (or draw from a shared pile).
Step 3: Players flip their top card at the same time and race to find the matching red object on the game board. The first player to spot it wins a token for that round. Continue flipping until all cards have been used. The player with the most tokens at the end wins!
Bonus Play Ideas
-
Independent play: One student uses a single board, flips through the cards and covers each match with a token. This works well for early finishers, quiet centers or focused sensory time.
-
Partner play: Each player has their own board and flips and matches cards independently. This is ideal for shy learners or parallel play practice.
-
Speed round: Use a timer for fast-paced, high-energy fun that builds quick scanning and reaction time!
Easy Differentiation
Children come to this game with different color knowledge, vocabularies and comfort levels with group play. These options make it easy to adjust so everyone can join in.
