Long vowel O I Spy game practice that feels like the highlight of your students' day! The Long Vowel /o/ I Spy "Flip" Board Game is a fast-paced, hands-on phonics race where kids hunt for pictures of words with the long O sound, such as goat, globe, boat and note.
Colorful illustrations and easy-to-follow gameplay give children lots of repetition with long O words spelled with CVCe patterns (consonant-vowel-consonant words with a silent e at the end, like note) and vowel teams (two letters that work together to make one vowel sound, like the oa in boat), plus two-syllable words such as hello and open. Whether you are reinforcing phonics, building articulation skills or strengthening visual discrimination, this is one game your students will ask to play again and again.

How to Use It
Step 1: Print the game boards, picture cards and tokens. Laminate for long-term use, then cut apart the pieces.
Step 2: Choose a game board for the round and place it in the center. Deal the picture cards face down to each player. All players flip over their top card at the same time and race to find the matching picture on the board.
Step 3: The first player to find and point to the picture wins a token for that round. Keep playing until all cards have been used. The player with the most tokens at the end wins!
Independent Play
Give one child an I Spy game board and the full stack of word cards. The child flips each long vowel O word card, finds the picture and covers it with a mini eraser or token. This builds visual focus and word recognition independently.
Parallel Play
Two players use separate I Spy game boards and take turns flipping and matching their own word cards at their own pace. This is great for learners who need personal space or are just beginning to join group activities.
Easy Differentiation
Every group of readers brings different phonics skills and attention spans. This game is easy to adjust for classroom differentiation, therapy settings and each child's emotional and developmental needs.
For Children Who Need More Support
- Play with one game board and a small stack of picture cards

For On-Level Practice
- Play the game as written in a small group
- Say each word out loud when you find the picture

- Switch to a new game board every round
