CVCe words board game practice that makes magic e an exciting race to the finish! This Fall Theme Spell It! game gives kindergarten and 1st grade readers over 160 CVCe word cards and a cheerful fall path to spin and move along.

CVCe words follow a consonant-vowel-consonant pattern with a silent e at the end, like rake, bone and game. That magic e makes the vowel say its name. With vibrant visuals and a simple game structure, partners read and spell words aloud, then spin to move ahead, so every turn builds phonics confidence in your fall literacy centers, small groups or intervention time.

With this fall CVCe words board game, you get

  • Over 160 CVCe word cards across all five long vowels
  • A full-color fall game board and spinner
  • Reading and spelling practice in every turn
  • Teacher instructions and easy differentiation ideas
  • Play for 2-4 players, plus an easy 2-player option

Your kids will love showing off their magic e skills!

  • Phoneme-grapheme mapping: Children connect each sound they hear to the letters that spell it, including the silent e.

How to Use It

Step 1: Shuffle the word cards and place them face down on the table. Each player places a game piece on the yellow Start star.

Step 2: On each turn, the player to the left reads a word aloud without showing the card. The current player spells the word aloud or writes it down.

Step 3: Correct on the first try? Spin the spinner and move forward! If not, stay on the same spot and the next player goes. The first player to reach the green star wins! Playing with two? Just take turns reading and spelling.

Easy Differentiation

Every reader learns magic e at a different pace. This game is easy to adjust so each child can be successful.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Use cards for one long vowel at a time, such as a-e words
  • Read the word together before the player spells it
  • Let children write the word so they can see each letter and the silent e
  • Tap out each sound before spelling the word

For On-Level Practice

  • Play the game as written with 2-4 players
  • Mix cards from all five long vowels in one stack
  • Play with a partner, taking turns reading and spelling

For an Extra Challenge

  • Spell each word aloud without writing it first
  • Have the player use the word in a sentence after spelling it
  • Sort the cards by long vowel after the game

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Practice target long vowel sounds as children read each word
  • Have children write the word to build letter formation and fine motor control
  • Model reading each word slowly, then have children repeat it
  • Give extra processing time and take turns one at a time when needed

Perfect For

  • Fall literacy centers and morning tubs
  • Guided reading groups or RTI
  • Early finishers and phonics stations
  • Homeschool reading practice
  • Partner games for tutoring or speech therapy
  • Substitute plans and small group rotations
  • File folder games
