3D shape activities for kindergarten math centers that get every child excited about solid shapes! WOW! The 3D Shape Pack gives you 20+ hands-on activities, from clip cards and matching games to sorting mats, spin and cover games and a 3D shapes four-in-a-row game.

Children name, sort, match, graph and build solid shapes such as spheres, cubes and cones. They also spot those shapes in everyday objects, so geometry starts to feel real. A 3D (three-dimensional) shape is a solid shape you can hold, like a ball or a block.

With this 3D shape pack, you get

  • 20+ hands-on 3D shape activities for kindergarten math centers
  • Every activity in both color and black and white
  • Practice finding solid shapes in real-life objects
  • Games, sorting mats, graphing and puzzles in one pack
  • Plenty of variety to keep shape practice fresh all unit long

Print in color or black and white and your 3D shape centers are ready to go!

Why Teachers Love It

  • So much variety: With 20+ activities, you can rotate new 3D shape centers all unit long.
  • Real-world connections: Sorting and matching solid shapes to everyday objects helps children see geometry all around them.
  • Print-friendly: Every activity comes in color and black and white, so it works no matter what your printing abilities are.
  • Hands-on learning: Play dough mats, dice games and clip cards keep little hands busy while children learn.
  • Game-based practice: Spin and cover, Cover Up! and four-in-a-row games make shape review fun.
  • Easy to assess: Clip cards and sorting mats show you quickly which shapes each child knows.

Skills Students Practice

Primary Academic Skills

  • Naming 3D shapes: Children identify and name solid shapes such as spheres, cubes and cones.
  • Shapes in the real world: Children match and sort everyday objects by their solid shape.
  • Sorting and classifying: Sorting mats ask children to decide if an object is or is not a given shape.
  • Graphing: Shape graphing sets give practice organizing and comparing data.
  • Shape vocabulary and word recognition: Matching games and write the room connect pictures with shape names.
  • Fine motor skills: Play dough mats and clip cards build hand strength and control.

Secondary Life & Learning Skills

  • Taking turns
  • Following directions
  • Using mathematical language
  • Working independently
  • Maintaining attention
  • Building confidence during group participation

How to Use It

Step 1: Choose the activities you want to use and print them in color or black and white. Laminate the center pieces if you want to use them again and again.

Step 2: Introduce each solid shape with the whole group. Hold up real objects, such as a ball or a box, and talk about the shape of each one.

Step 3: Place the clip cards, sorting mats, games and puzzles in your math centers. Rotate activities through your 3D shape unit so children practice each shape in a different way.

Easy Differentiation

Kindergartners come to geometry with very different levels of shape knowledge. With so many activities in one pack, it is easy to give each child the right level of practice.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Focus on one shape at a time with a single sorting mat, such as Sphere/Not a Sphere
  • Hand children a real object to hold and compare with the pictures
  • Start with the picture matching game before adding the word cards
  • Use the play dough mats for hands-on practice

For On-Level Practice

  • Complete the clip cards and shape puzzles independently
  • Play the spin and cover games with a partner
  • Sort objects on the shape sorting mats
  • Record shape names during write the room

For an Extra Challenge

  • Match pictures, numbers and words in the matching games
  • Graph solid shapes and tell which group has more or fewer
  • Play the 3D shapes four-in-a-row game or a Cover Up! game
  • Find more real objects in the classroom that match each shape

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Practice shape vocabulary with a short language frame such as "This is a ___."
  • Use the play dough mats and clip cards to build fine motor skills
  • Pair each picture with a real object children can touch
  • Use the black and white pages to reduce visual clutter
  • Give extra processing time and model each activity first

Perfect For

  • Math centers
  • Small groups
  • 3D shape units
  • Partner games
  • Intervention
  • Early finishers
  • Special education classrooms
  • Homeschool

Standards

This 3D shape pack supports kindergarten math standards in Common Core and the TEKS (Math, adopted 2012), plus kindergarten data standards in the Virginia Math SOL (2023):

Common Core State Standards

  • CCSS K.G.A.2: Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientation or overall size.
  • CCSS K.G.A.3: Identify shapes as two-dimensional (flat) or three-dimensional (solid).
  • CCSS K.G.B.4: Compare three-dimensional shapes using informal language to describe how they are alike and different.
  • CCSS K.MD.B.3: Classify objects into categories and count how many are in each, as on the shape sorting mats.

Texas TEKS

  • TEKS Math K.6.B: Identify three-dimensional solids, including cylinders, cones, spheres and cubes, in the real world.
  • TEKS Math K.6.E: Classify and sort two- and three-dimensional figures regardless of orientation or size.
  • TEKS Math K.8.B: Use data to create real-object and picture graphs with the shape graphing sets.

Virginia SOL

  • VA SOL Math K.PS.1.a: Sort and classify objects into categories based on one attribute, such as shape.
  • VA SOL Math K.PS.1.f: Organize and represent a data set using pictures to form a simple picture graph.

Add the 3D Shape Pack to your cart and have 20+ hands-on solid shape activities ready for your kindergarten math centers. Print, play and watch your learners spot spheres, cubes and cones everywhere they look!
