Money activities for kindergarten math centers that get every child excited about coins! The Money Pack is full of 20+ hands-on coin identification activities, from clip cards and matching games to board games, coin mazes, puzzles and graphing pages.
Children learn to tell U.S. coins apart by looking closely at both sides of each coin and connecting every coin to its value. They sort pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters, race through coin mazes, fill a piggy bank and graph the coins they spin, roll and spy. With so many ways to practice, coin skills get plenty of repetition without ever feeling like the same lesson twice.

Why Teachers Love It
-
A whole coin unit in one place: More than 20 activities means you have something new to pull out every day of your money unit.
-
Both sides of every coin: Matching games for coin heads and coin tails help children recognize a coin no matter which side is facing up.
-
Hands-on and game-based: Board games, Cover Up!, mazes and the piggy bank game keep children moving and talking about coins.
-
Built-in math connections: Ten-frame clip cards, sorting and graphing pages connect coin work to counting and data skills.
-
Prints the way you need it: Every activity comes in color and black and white, so you can use this pack no matter what your printing options are.
-
Great for centers: Once children know a game, they can play it again and again with a partner or on their own.
Skills Students Practice
Primary Academic Skills
-
Coin identification: Children name pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters across games, sorts and mazes.
-
Coin values: Matching games and puzzles connect each coin to its value.
-
Heads and tails recognition: Children match both sides of each coin to the right value.
-
Sorting and classifying: Sorting mats ask children to sort coins by type, such as penny and not penny.
-
Counting: Ten-frame clip cards and the piggy bank game build counting skills. A ten-frame is a 2 by 5 grid of boxes that helps children see numbers up to 10.
-
Graphing: Roll and graph, spin and graph and I Spy graphing pages have children collect and show coin data.
-
Visual discrimination: Mazes and I Spy pages ask children to look closely to find the right coin.
Secondary Life & Learning Skills
- Taking turns
- Following directions
- Using mathematical language
- Waiting during group play
- Maintaining attention
- Working independently
How to Use It
Step 1: Choose the activities you want and print them in color or black and white. Laminate games, clip cards and mats you plan to use again.
Step 2: Introduce the coins together, naming each one and looking at both sides. Model one game, such as the matching game or a board game, in a small group.
Step 3: Set the games, sorts and puzzles out in math centers. Add the coin mazes and graphing pages for independent practice as children grow more confident.
Easy Differentiation
Every child comes to coins with different experience. This pack makes it easy to adjust each activity so all learners can take part.
For Children Who Need More Support
- Begin with the penny and not penny sorting mats before adding more coins
- Focus on one or two coins at a time in the matching games
- Name each coin and its value together before a game starts
- Use real coins next to the pictures so children can compare them
For On-Level Practice
- Play the matching games with all four coins
- Rotate through the board games and Cover Up! game in centers
- Complete the coin mazes and Spin & Graph pages
- Play the piggy bank coin counting game with a partner
For an Extra Challenge
- Match coin tails to values without looking at the heads side
- Ask questions about the graphs, such as "Which coin did you roll the most?"
- Put the puzzles together without a model
- Have children explain how they know which coin is which
For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support
- Practice coin names as vocabulary with a short frame such as "This is a ___."
- Use clothespins on the clip cards to build hand strength
- Offer the coin sorting sets for hands-on matching with fewer choices
- Give extra processing time and model each step before children begin
