Every craft comes in a full-color version and a black-and-white version, so you can print whichever fits your day. A mini letter picture on each page shows children how the pieces go together. How to Use It

Step 1: Print the craft template for your chosen letter in color or black and white.

Step 2: Set out crayons or markers, scissors and glue sticks. Children color the pieces (if using black and white) and cut them out.

Step 3: Children use the mini visual cue to glue the pieces together and form the character or object. Say the letter name and sound together as you admire the finished craft.

Materials You'll Need

  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks

Easy Differentiation

Children come to craft time with very different cutting and letter skills. These crafts are simple to adjust for each of them.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Pre-cut some or all of the pieces
  • Use the full-color version so children can focus on assembling
  • Point to the mini letter icon and place the first piece together
  • Say the letter name and sound aloud while gluing each piece

For On-Level Practice

  • Color, cut and glue the black-and-white version independently
  • Name the letter and the character's beginning sound
  • Complete one letter craft each week with your letter of the week

For an Extra Challenge

  • Assemble the craft without looking at the mini letter icon
  • Name more words that start with the same sound
  • Write the letter or the craft's name beside the finished craft
  • Collect finished crafts in a binder or folder to build an alphabet book

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Practice target sounds and vocabulary with each craft's character or object
  • Use the crafts during OT sessions to build scissor skills and bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
  • Offer short language frames such as "A is for ___."
  • Give extra processing time and model each step before children begin

Perfect For

  • Letter of the week
  • Literacy centers
  • Small groups
  • Whole-class craft time
  • Speech therapy and ELL support
  • Occupational therapy sessions
  • Special education classrooms
  • Substitute plans and independent work
