Weather Bump! games give preschool and kindergarten students a fun, competitive way to learn weather words! This set includes 4 unique weather Bump! games with everything you need to make them into file folder games, plus Spin & Graph sheets for extra weather practice.

Children spin the spinner, name the weather and find the matching picture on the game board, then try to bump other players off their spaces. Each game board comes with a word spinner and a second picture spinner, so readers and children who are not yet ready to read can play the same game. You can store the games in file folders or simply print them on card stock and keep them in your usual manner.

Skills Students Practice

Primary Academic Skills

  • Weather vocabulary: Children name weather such as sunshine, rainbows, clouds, rain and snow.
  • Reading weather words: The word spinners give early readers practice reading weather terms.
  • Picture matching: Children who are not yet reading match picture to picture with the picture spinners.
  • Graphing: The Spin & Graph sheets let children record and compare their weather spins.
  • Visual discrimination: Children look closely to find the weather picture that matches their spin.

Secondary Life & Learning Skills

  • Taking turns
  • Waiting during group play
  • Following directions
  • Maintaining attention
  • Communicating choices
  • Building confidence during group participation

How to Use It

Step 1: Print the games in color or black and white. Assemble each one inside a file folder with its cover, tab label, spinner and Spin & Graph pocket, or print on card stock and laminate for durability.

Step 2: Choose the word spinner or the picture spinner for each group. Players take turns spinning, naming the weather and finding a matching picture on the game board.

Step 3: Keep the Spin & Graph sheets with the game so children can spin and graph the weather for more practice.

Easy Differentiation

Young learners come to weather vocabulary with very different reading skills. These games are easy to adjust for each child.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Use the picture spinner so children match picture to picture
  • Name each weather picture together before playing
  • Play one-on-one with an adult or a helper
  • Start with the Spin & Graph sheets, which use pictures only

For On-Level Practice

  • Use the word spinner with children who are beginning to read
  • Have children say each weather word aloud as they spin
  • Play in small groups or with partners

For an Extra Challenge

  • Ask children to use each weather word in a sentence
  • Talk about which weather showed up most on the Spin & Graph sheet
  • Have children describe the weather outside and find it on the board

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Practice weather words with the picture spinner
  • Use a sentence frame such as "It is ___."
  • Let children point to the matching picture when speaking is hard
  • Give extra processing time on each turn

Perfect For

  • Weather units
  • Science centers
  • Preschool and pre-K classrooms
  • Kindergarten small groups
  • Partner games
  • File folder game collections
  • Indoor recess
  • Homeschool
