How to Use It
Step 1: Print the game you want on card stock and laminate the I Spy boards, image cards and tokens. Cut the pieces apart.
Step 2: Set up for 2-4 players. Deal the I Spy cards evenly between players and stack them face down.
Step 3: Each player flips the top card from their pile, and all players race to find their picture on the board. The first player to find the correct picture wins a token card. Keep flipping and searching until all the I Spy cards have been used. The player with the most tokens wins the game! Extend the play by making additional copies of the picture cards for longer games.
Independent Play
Give one student a game board and the full stack of cards. They choose a card and use a mini eraser or game marker to cover the matching picture. This works well for morning tubs, early finishers or quiet time.
Parallel Play
Give two students their own identical game boards. Divide the image cards and let each student search their own board independently. This is a great option for students who struggle with shared spaces or competitive play.
Easy Differentiation
Every group has children with different attention spans, vocabulary and comfort with competition. These I Spy games are easy to adjust for each of them.
For Children Who Need More Support
- Start with Independent Play and a small stack of cards
- Name the pictures together before the game begins
- Choose familiar themes, such as colors or seasons, first
- Use Parallel Play so there is no race
For On-Level Practice
- Play the standard race with 2-4 players
- Switch to a new board each round
- Rotate through the games that match your current unit
For an Extra Challenge
- Ask players to name the picture before they can win the token
- Have children describe where the picture is on the board using words like above, below and next to
- Play the letter sound and vowel games and ask for another word with the same sound
- Make extra copies of the picture cards for longer games
For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support
- Use the letter sound games to practice target sounds
- Use a short language frame such as "I spy a ___."
- Build visual scanning and fine motor control as children flip cards, point to pictures and move tokens
- Use Parallel Play for children who need their own space
- Give extra processing time and take turns one at a time when needed
Perfect For

★★★★★ Mary W. wrote, “Love these for my class! Simple for students to grasp and quick and easy for me to change out for the different themes. Because there are 10 different boards to choose from and a growing bundle of themes to grow with really makes it more fun and less likely for players to remember the location of objects with repeat play!”
★★★★★ Catherine V. wrote, “My kiddos love this! I use it for early finishers or in the morning while they are staggering in during breakfast. They are very engaged and enjoy playing!”
