Spanish counting activities for numbers 1-20 with a fun apple theme! This set of 6 colorful SPANISH counting activities gives preschool and kindergarten learners hands-on fall math center practice with apple trees, ten-frames, counting cards and clip cards.

Children work on ten-frames, number recognition, number sight words (number words such as dieciséis) and one-to-one correspondence, all in Spanish. Grab your favorite apple mini erasers, glass gems or pom poms for counting from 1-20. A ten-frame is a grid of ten boxes that helps children see and count numbers at a glance.

Please note: The student pages are all in Spanish, but the teacher instruction pages are in English.

How to Use It

Step 1: Print the color pages for centers and the black and white pages for easy printing. To save on laminating, use a write and wipe pocket for the play dough number mats and Roll, Write and Show mat.

Step 2: Introduce the mats in a small group. Count together in Spanish and show each number with apple mini erasers, glass gems or pom poms.

Step 3: Place the number mats, counting cards and clip cards in your math centers. Use dry erase markers or crayons to write the number words at the bottom of sets on the play dough number mats.

Materials You'll Need

  • Apple mini erasers, glass gems or pom poms for counting
  • Write and wipe pockets (optional, to save on laminating)
  • Dry erase markers or crayons

Easy Differentiation

Young learners count with very different levels of confidence. These activities make it easy to give each child the right amount of support.

For Children Who Need More Support

  • Use the number mats with guided ten-frames
  • Begin with numbers 1-10 before moving to 11-20
  • Count together in Spanish while touching each counter
  • Start with a few clip cards at a time

For On-Level Practice

  • Fill in the blank ten-frame mats
  • Show each number on the independent counting mats
  • Complete the ten-frame counting cards and clip cards
  • Use the roll, write and show mat with a partner

For an Extra Challenge

  • Write each Spanish number word without a model
  • Show the same number two ways, on a ten-frame and on the apple tree
  • Tell how many more counters are needed to fill the ten-frame
  • Say the number word in Spanish and in English

For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support

  • Use the Spanish student pages with Spanish-speaking children and dual language learners
  • Say each number and number word aloud together
  • Offer larger counters such as pom poms for children building hand control
  • Scaffold with guided ten-frames and a few clip cards for beginners
  • Give extra processing time and model each step first

Perfect For

  • Spanish and dual language classrooms
  • Math centers
  • Small groups
  • ELL support
  • Intervention
  • Apple and fall themes
  • Homeschool Spanish and math
  • Take-home practice
