Interactive math notebook for numbers 1-10 pages that show every number in many ways! This exciting mini-book is a great way to review numbers 1-10 with your students, using hands, balls (arrays), base ten blocks, pennies, tally marks, addition problems, number lines and MORE!
Each page starts with one half page of pre-added work, such as tracing the number word, tracing the numeral and drawing a picture to show understanding. Every page includes the statement "I can demonstrate the number ___ in many ways," and this notebook does just that. Base ten blocks are small cubes and rods used to show ones and tens. Tally marks are simple lines grouped in fives for counting.
With this interactive math notebook, you get
- A notebook page for every number from 1 to 10
- Tracing, drawing and counting on every page
- Hands-on pieces to build an addition problem, number line and fan-fold book for each number
- A back cover for matching numerals to pictures
Lots of chances for students to show what they know about numbers 1-10!

-
Number words: Tracing the number word on each page connects words to numerals.
-
Counting and quantity: Pictures, pennies, hands and tally marks show how many each number stands for.
-
Multiple number representations: Students show each number in many formats, including arrays and base ten blocks.
-
Early addition: Students assemble an addition problem for each number.
-
Number lines: Building a number line for each number shows where it falls in the counting sequence.
Secondary Life & Learning Skills
- Following directions
- Working independently
- Maintaining attention
- Using mathematical language
- Building confidence during group participation
How to Use It
Step 1: Print the notebook pages and pieces for the numbers you are working on. Students trace the number word and numeral and draw a picture on the pre-added half page.
Step 2: Students cut out, assemble and glue in the addition problem, number line and fan-fold book for each number.
Step 3: When all ten pages are complete, students finish the mini-book with the back cover by matching numerals to the matching pictures. Use the finished book for review all year.
Easy Differentiation
Young learners build number sense at different speeds. These ideas help each child succeed with the same notebook.
For Children Who Need More Support
- Work on one number at a time over several days
- Precut the pieces for children who are still building scissor skills
- Count each picture aloud together
- Model each fold before children try it
For On-Level Practice
- Complete one notebook page per lesson
- Have children count each representation aloud
- Use the back cover as a quick check of number recognition
For an Extra Challenge
- Have children show the number another way on the back of the page
- Ask children to find other addition problems that make the number
- Have children explain their fan-fold book to a partner
For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support
- Use the pages to practice number words and counting vocabulary
- Use cutting, folding and gluing as fine motor practice
- Use a sentence frame such as "I can show 5 with ___."
- Give extra time and break each page into smaller steps
Perfect For
- Kindergarten math lessons
- Pre-k number review
- Small group math
- Math centers
- Morning work
- Intervention
- Homeschool math
- Number of the day routines
Standards
This interactive math notebook supports kindergarten math standards in Common Core, the TEKS (Math, adopted 2012) and the Virginia Math SOL (2023):
Common Core State Standards
-
CCSS K.CC.A.3: Write numbers from 0 to 20 and show a number of objects with a written numeral. Students trace each numeral and match numerals to pictures.
-
CCSS K.CC.B.5: Count to answer "how many?" questions, using the pictures, pennies and tally marks.
-
CCSS K.OA.A.1: Represent addition with objects, fingers, drawings and equations, such as the addition problem for each number.
Texas TEKS
-
TEKS Math K.2.B: Read, write and represent whole numbers from 0 to at least 20 with and without objects or pictures.
-
TEKS Math K.2.C: Count a set of objects up to at least 20 and show that the last number said tells how many.
Virginia SOL
-
VA SOL Math K.NS.2.a: Read, write and identify numerals, such as the numerals 1 through 10.
-
VA SOL Math K.NS.1.c: Represent forward counting by ones using tools such as number paths, like the number line for each number.
