Time clip cards with 192 cards across multiple levels, so every learner can practice telling time right where they are! Telling time can be a difficult task for young learners, but review becomes a game with these leveled clip cards.
Each card shows an analog clock (a clock face with hands) and three answer choices. Children read the clock, find the matching digital time and clip it. The cards move from time on the hour to the half hour, then to :15 and :45 and finally to five-minute times, so students can progress through their time telling skills one level at a time.
With these telling time clip cards, you get:
- 192 clip cards for reading analog clocks
- Leveled practice from the hour all the way to five-minute times
- Two levels for the hour, half hour and quarter hour sets, so you can raise the challenge gradually
- A hands-on format that works for centers, small groups and independent review
Print the level your students need and start clipping!

Why Teachers Love It
-
Built-in levels: Each skill starts with a Level One set, then a Level Two set adds opposing times that ask children to look closely at both clock hands.
-
Grows with your students: Move from the hour to the half hour, the quarter hour and five-minute times as children are ready.
-
Easy to differentiate in one center: Put different levels in the same center so every child practices at the right level.
-
Plenty of practice: With 192 cards, you have enough for repeated review across the year.
-
Hands-on and self-paced: Clipping the answer keeps children active and lets them work through the cards at their own speed.
Skills Students Practice
Primary Academic Skills
-
Reading analog clocks: Children look at the hour hand and the minute hand to tell the time shown.
-
Matching analog and digital time: Each card asks children to find the digital time that matches the clock face.
-
Time to the hour and half hour: The first sets focus on :00 and :30 times.
-
Time to the quarter hour: The :15 and :45 sets add quarter past and quarter to times.
-
Time to five minutes: The final set covers the rest of the five-minute times on the clock.
-
Telling similar times apart: Level Two choices such as 10:00 and 12:50 ask children to check which hand is which.
-
Fine motor skills: Pinching a clip onto the correct answer builds hand strength.
Secondary Life & Learning Skills
- Following directions
- Maintaining attention
- Making and checking predictions
- Using mathematical language
- Working independently
- Building confidence
How to Use It
Step 1: Choose the level your students need and print those pages. Laminate the cards for durability and cut them apart.
Step 2: Model one card together. Look at the hour hand, then the minute hand, say the time aloud and clip the matching digital time.
Step 3: Set the cards out in a math center, small group or independent work bin. When children are ready, move them to Level Two or to the next time skill.
Easy Differentiation
Children learn to tell time at very different rates. These leveled clip cards make it easy to give each child the right amount of challenge.
For Children Who Need More Support
- Start with time on the hour, Level One
- Work with a few cards at a time
- Point to the hour hand and the minute hand together before children choose
- Use a real or toy clock to show the same time
For On-Level Practice
- Move through the hour and half hour sets at Level One and Level Two
- Mix hour and half hour cards in one center
- Have partners check each other's answers
For an Extra Challenge
- Use the :15 and :45 Level Two cards
- Practice the time to 5 minutes set
- Ask children to say each time two ways, such as 3:45 and quarter to 4
- Have children write the time before they clip it
For Speech, OT, ELL or Special Education Support
- Practice time words such as o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to
- Have children say the time aloud before clipping
- Offer a larger clip or let children point to the answer if pinching is hard
- Reduce the number of cards in a set and give extra processing time
Perfect For
- Math centers
- Small groups
- Intervention
- Morning work
- Early finishers
- Review before a time test
- Special education classrooms
- Homeschool
- Substitute plans
Standards
These time clip cards support 1st grade standards in Common Core, the TEKS (Math, adopted 2012) and the Virginia Math SOL (2023), and the quarter hour and five-minute sets build toward 2nd grade Common Core:
-
CCSS 1.MD.B.3: Tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks. The hour and half hour sets match each clock face to its digital time.
-
TEKS Math 1.7.E: Tell time to the hour and half hour using analog and digital clocks.
-
VA SOL Math 1.MG.3: Tell time to the hour and half-hour and match the time on an analog clock to a digital time.
-
CCSS 2.MD.C.7: Tell time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes. The :15, :45 and five-minute sets give practice with these times.
Grab the Time Clip Cards and give your students 192 chances to practice reading analog clocks, from time on the hour to five-minute times. Print the level each child needs, set out the clips and watch confidence with telling time grow card by card. Add them to your cart today!
